Jade in Coast Range belongs to calcedony of the fiber–latent–brilliant quality, but some kind of variation jades present fine and smooth quality and are similar to “the New Year cake”, which has sense of gum-resins and elasticity. Therefore, Jades in Coast Range have the quality of the hornblende, which has the sense of congealed fat and pyroxene, which has the glittering and translucent sense.
Because of being natured with the special geography and geological environment, as well as gentle rock and earth accumulating, raising, holding, hiding for years, Coast Range jade is rich, varied and changeful in various fields, such as quality, color, hardness, lamination ,etc.. According to classification, we can classified to calcedony and jasper depending on the definition of mineralogy. From the point of appreciating, it has obvious difference and variation on the feel , such as calcedony quality , New Year cake quality , jasper quality ,etc. which become the important evidence while enjoying. therefore, besides the calcedony and jasper, it expanded two kind of jades –
“New Year cakes” in accordance with the feel and “fossil jade” which takes shape of extinct plants and animal remains and which can be proper and intact fossil jade. It expects to reasonably divide and classify the jade system of Coast Range.
The category of the Calcedony
Because of the exquisite and dense texture and high–calcedony quality, the category of the calcedony seems translucent. The degree of penetrability is usually between transparent and semitransparent and presents gloss of glass and glossy senses. Taiwan sapphire’s value is the highest; the snow flake jade ranks second. No matter processing, chiseling or carving and creating, Purple jade , white calcedony , carnelian , spend jade , seaweed jade and the other kind of calcedonies or it which has graceful lines could be thorough full play .
