  • Considering land area and population density, is it suitable in Taiwan to develop sands and gravels resource on land?(2019/08/22)

The land area in Taiwan is limited but population is intensive, so that land resources in Taiwan are very precious. The laws of environmental protection and the policies of farmland become increasingly stringent. The mining of sands and gravels in Taiwan are strictly supervised by related government units, so it is feasible to develop and use sands and gravels resources in Taiwan under considering sustainable development of land. In recent years, due to the imported amount of sands and gravels from Mainland China is continuous declining, its domestic demand increasing, the limited capacity of our terminals loading and unloading, and the impacts of the environmental and traffic conditions near the ports, caused the risk of supply. Therefore, it is natural to form the regional system of sands and gravels resource for suppling and demanding by way of developing mining sands and gravels resource on land, which not only could reduce the transporting distances, but also stabilize the price of suppling and demanding.
